Luke Takes a Day for Hunting and Fishing

By: Alison Bonaguro

Who knew there was actually a day called National Hunting and Fishing Day? Well, apparently Luke Bryan did. And so did Hank Williams Jr., Travis Tritt, Tracy Byrd and Jeff Foxworthy. The special day (the fourth Saturday of every September) has been on the calendar since 1972 to show appreciation for the people who help make and follow the rules that create fish and wildlife conservation. The day has even been formally proclaimed by every U.S. president. And now Bryan is the honorary chairman for the NHFD. I hope to help grow awareness of what hunters and anglers do for conservation, and just promote hunting and fishing overall, he said. And looking back on his childhood, he said, I dont remember learning how to hunt and fish just like I dont remember learning how to talk. It was just a natural thing in our family. That explains a lot, especially Bryans love of fishing with his Grandpa in his ballad of baiting hooks and telling stories, Tackle Box.
