Luke and His Mom to Share Co-Host Duties on GAC
�I was worried that if I won, she might die,� Luke Bryan says of his recent ACM win for Top New Artist and how his mom � already a complete wreck over the possible honor � might react. The charming and funny rising star and his equally charming and funny mom, LeClaire, join host Nan Kelley for a special Mother�s Day edition of Top 20 Countdown, Friday, May 7, 8:00 p.m./Eastern on Great American Country.
�I think I was hyperventilating,� recounts LeClaire of the moments leading up to the announcement that her son had won. �When I heard the �L� come out (of the presenter�s mouth) I fell over into the lap of the man seated next to me, breaking a toenail and scraping my hand!� While Luke tried to maintain his calm, he says the three minutes between his live performance and the presentation of his category was �a real intense three minutes of my life.�
As only a proud mother can, LeClaire shares stories from Luke�s childhood including calls from his elementary school because they�d temporarily lost her son and another one when he�d darted across the street, running directly into the side of a car. Seems a girlfriend had distracted the second grader. She also proudly shows the Mother�s Day card he made for her when he was 7. �I�ll keep it forever.�
With a young son and a second on the way, Luke�s perspective on parenthood has evolved. �The more you father a child, the more you can appreciate mothers. Now that I�m older, I can more clearly see the sacrifices mothers� make.�
